A Son's Request: Capturing Otis in Art
10/1/2020

"Mom, I want my own painting. A painting that will always hang in my room."
"Oh really? What would you like?"
"A guy."
"Otis, you know how challenging it is to paint a person."
"But you can do it. Remember when you painted all the walls with Gorillaz drawings in that house that looks haunted on Palmerstone Street? Then all the kids from my class, in the store, and on the street asked you if you did it and said those drawings were fantastic? This painting will be similar. You can paint something like that. Please."
"Send it to me, but I can't promise anything."
He sent it, and after a moment of observation, I told myself, "I can do this." He waited a bit, poor thing, but now I can't wait for him to come back from school to see his expression.
Primed canvas, painted with acrylic, awaits varnish. 40 x 50cm.
